Event Description

Defining Experimental Animation is an evening of short films that both define and test the boundaries of what we call "experimental animation". How does one "conduct" an animation experiment? Can experimental animation still engage with character and figuration? Is animation itself an experiment with cinema? This exciting program presents ten films films that offer ten points of entry to these questions.

The line-up of films covers a diverse range of methods, styles, and time periods. Films include less-screened works by well-recognized filmmakers, but also artists who are frequently excluded from experimental animation histories
Some films were made with paints and inks, some with wax and scissors, and some with early computer technology.
We are projecting all films on 16mm film at the fabulous Cinema Borealis venue.
